3.2 - Types of Triangles

In this mini unit, you will focus on explore the properties of triangles using geometric tools, such as the distance formula and slope.  Triangles are the strongest shape, so they are used in structures across the world.  The skills learned in this section help engineers, architectures and interior decorators as they include this shape in their designs.

Objectives
Learning:

I will use coordinate representations of geometric ideas such as distance, slope and midpoint to classify quadrilaterals.

Language:
Students will match definitions to names of triangles then draw examples of each of the triangles making sure to use the correct symbols.
2.  Review your knowledge of the different types of triangles by playing the game below, then download, print and complete the Triangles Recall worksheet.  This knowledge will be used as you identify different types of triangles as they are drawn on a coordinate grid.

After clicking on the pic above, make sure you select WITH ROTATION level as that is how you will see the triangles throughout this mini unit.

4.  Create a comic (follow the link below) that represents the method you follow or an example on how to identify triangles in a coordinate plane.  I created an example of a comic but I challenge you to create your own comic that is better than mine.  If you make a more thorough and exact comic, I'll replace mine with yours on this website.

Each group member needs to make their own comic.  If you need help navigating the site to create your comic, please let me know.

To turn your comic strip in, please insert a pic in a word document, then save the pic in your drive.  upload the comic strip in the assignment form below.
