3.5 - Size Transformations (Dilations)
1. Watch the following video linked by the Elephant Pic and select 'Enlargements'. Once the short clip is complete, answer the question at the end as an intro to the mathematics of dilation. If you would like more knowledge before you begin self-exploration, follow the the link below.
|
2. Download and print the worksheet to the right, Size Transformations Unraveled, in which you will complete your first size transformations (dilation). You will be introduced to the notation of transformations and asked to start thinking about what these transformations do to the area and perimeter of the shape.

3. Working from problem #2 on the worksheet, Size Transformations Unraveled, complete the following questions that can also be found on page 270 of your text book.
Download and print the following document for graph paper to write your answers down.
|
4. Now that you have explored perimeter and area changes after a size transformation, download and print the Perimeter and Area after a Dilation worksheet to take notes and answer questions based on these concepts. The video provided below is another example of how area and perimeter are effected, please watch if you find yourself struggling with the worksheet.

This video is another example of how the perimeter and area of an object change after a dilation (size transformation) has been complete.
5. The two links to the right are interactive assessments to help you determine how well you understand size transformations (dilations). Take both multiple choice tests and record how well you do to decide if you need to revisit a previous section of the mini unit.
